Landscape Forms Inc., a leading designer and manufacturer of commercial outdoor furniture and accessories, has partnered with BMW Group DesignworksUSA in Munich, Germany to design a collection of products that address new trends in urban development. The collection will incorporate global design, manufacturing and finishing techniques.

The partnership brings together Landscape Forms' expertise in developing and manufacturing furniture for outdoor environments with BMW Group DesignworksUSA's broad experience in product and transportation design.

Research will draw on Landscape Forms' Roundtables, in which design professionals and other experts have explored key issues in urban revitalization and transportation, and BMW Group DesignworksUSA's presence and experience in Europe and Asia.

Product engineering will be completed at Landscape Forms' Kalamazoo headquarters.

Landscape Forms Search process to solicit customer feedback during the design development will be international in scope, gathering specifier and client feedback from several continents.

Research, design and engineering for manufacture will culminate in a product launch planned for 2009.

Bill Main, president of Landscape Forms, stated, "As Landscape Forms expands our sales horizons, we are aware of global differences in aesthetics, functionality and manufacturing capabilities. We realize that to serve a variety of markets we have to be international in our outlook and local in our implementation. This project will expand our product portfolio with designs that are aesthetically and functionally appropriate to Europe and Asia as well as North America. We are excited at the possibilities in working with the European design studio of BMW Group DesignworksUSA and hope to discover and apply some great elements of outdoor commercial furniture design that have universal appeal."

"Intelligent Creativity" is our unique design approach to build the framework, content, and vision that allow our clients to position and differentiate their brand through design. "Design", says Laurenz Schaffer, Director of the Munich studio, Germany, "is so much more than just the visual shaping of a product." He mentions three elements as being crucial to product success. First of all the extent to which a product visually distinguishes itself from others, then the "selling idea" – i.e. the functional properties or "experience" which gives it an added value distinguishing it from comparable products, and finally the relevance a product has for the brand and its target group. "Because of a deep experience in leading industries BMW Group DesignworksUSA is able to tailor strategic roadmaps that create differentiation potentials, illustrate market opportunities, and anticipate future trends, allowing clients to leverage design to its full business potential."
