CavClear EPS Insulation System. CSI 3-Part Specifications.

These guide specifications have been prepared by CavClear to assist design professionals in the preparation of a specification section covering CavClear Masonry Mat for use in masonry wall cavities and in isolating masonry column cladding from masonry columns: CavClear Masonry Mat prevents mortar obstructions in the air space, eliminates weep obstructions due to mortar droppings and prevents mortar accumulation on masonry wall ties.

Since they have been prepared according to the principles established in the Manual of Practice published by The Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) including the use of section numbers and titles from the 1988 Edition of MasterFormat, guide specifications may be used in conjunction with most commercially available master specifications sections with minor editing.

Section 04150 - Masonry Accessories

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

    A. Section Includes:

1.3 SUBMITTALS

    A. Submit under provisions of Section [01340] [_____]:

      1. Product Data: Include descriptive data, product attributes, and performance characteristics.

      2. Samples: Submit [two] [____] samples of masonry mat/insulation composite, [6 x 6] [__ x __] inches ([150 x 150] [__ x __] mm) in size.

 1.4 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING

    A. Store materials in clean, dry, sheltered area, off ground, until used. 

PART 2 - PRODUCTS 

2.1 MANUFACTURERS

2.2 MATERIALS

    A. Masonry Mat/Insulation Composite:

    1. Product: CavClear EPS Insulation System.

    2. Description: Masonry mat factory bonded to rigid insulation.

    3. Masonry Mat: Fluid conducting, nonabsorbent, mold and mildew resistant polymer mesh consisting of 100 percent recycled polyester with PVC binder.

    *** Specify ¾ inch thickness for 1 to 1_ inch air spaces; specify 1 inch thickness for 1¼ to 1½ inch air spaces; specify 1¼ inch thickness for air spaces 1½ inch or larger. Air space dimensions do not include insulation thickness. ***

    4. Masonry Mat Thickness: [¾] [1] [1¼] inches ([19] [25] [32] mm).

    5. Insulation: ASTM C 578 closed cell expanded polystyrene foam.

 2.3 ACCESSORIES

 PART 3 - EXECUTION

 3.1 EXAMINATION

    A. Verify that air space depth is at least ¼ inch (6 mm) greater than masonry mat and insulation thickness.

    B. Verify that weeps, wall ties, and reinforcement are properly located.

    C. Verify that flashings are properly located and intact.

3.2 PREPARATION

    A. Fill voids in substrate with suitable patching compound; finish flush.

    B. Remove projecting mortar and other protrusions from substrate.

    C. Remove mortar and debris from cavity spaces, wall ties, and reinforcing. 

3.3 INSTALLATION

    A. Install insulation/masonry mat composite continuously in exterior masonry cavities prior to construction of exterior wythe; follow manufacturer�s installation instructions.

    B. Install horizontally between [wall ties] [joint reinforcement]. Stagger end joints in adjacent rows.

    C. Butt adjacent pieces to moderate contact. Fit to perimeter construction and penetrations without voids.

    D. Secure with [spots of adhesive] [fasteners] spaced maximum [16] [__] inches ([400] [__] mm) on center.

    E. Apply sealant to insulation at panel-to-panel joints, around perimeter, and at penetrations.
