Specification FE-5

Base Flashing � For non load-bearing construction (alternate) [See also FE-1 (NLB)]

General

This flashing specification is an alternate detail to FE-1 (NLB) for use on non load-bearing construction, or where there is any potential for differential movement between the deck and the parapet or wall. The vertical wood curb should be fastened to the deck only.

Note: All general instructions contained in the current JM Commercial/Industrial Roofing Systems Manual shall be considered part of this specification.

Preparation for Flashing: Any previously installed metal cap or counterflashing must be lifted or removed, to permit application of the expansion joint cover.

Application

Base Flashing: Refer to Flashing Specification FE-1 (NLB) for detailed instructions on application of the base flashing.

Metal Cap Flashing: The metal flashing should be installed in accordance with the metal manufacturer�s specifications and details, or in accordance with SMACNA procedures. It should overlap the base flashing a minimum of 4" (102 mm).

Surfacing: GlasTite Flexible must be coated with a final surfacing. This surfacing can be any approved JM roof coating, except hot asphalt.

Curb mounted roof-to-roof expansion joint cover

Expansion Joint Cover: Application of the base flashing is outlined in Specification FE-1 (NLB). Install and splice Expand-O-Flash in accordance with the installation instructions provided with the product.

Prefabricated intersections, as well as horizontal-to-vertical transitions, are available to complete the Expand-O-Flash installation. Refer to Section 10 on "Roofing Accessories" in the current JM Commercial/Industrial Roofing Systems Manual.

Flashing to prefabricated curb

Prefabricated Curb: Refer to Flashing Specification FE-1 (NLB) for detailed instructions on application of the base flashing. Base flashing felts should extend as far up the prefabricated curb as practicable, but no less than 8" (203 mm). Install the flashing receiver and metal counterflashing in accordance with the prefabricated curb manufacturer�s specifications and details, or in accordance with the FE-8 detail.
