ENDURA RUBBER FLOOR TILE SPECIFICATION

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.01 DEFINITIONS

  1. Chamfered edges will be referred to as the coved sides of the profile which noticeably reduces maintenance. The chamfered edges reduce the collection of dirt at the base of the profile, unlike optional designs which have a dirt-collecting crease line at the bottom of the profile.
  2. Excessive wear shall be referred to as the wearing away on the average of more than .0035" of stair tread material per year.
  3. Fire retardant shall refer to either the critical radiant panel test (ASTM E-648) or the flame spread test - Steiner Tunnel Test (ASTM E-84).
  4. Installer is referred to as construction personnel assigned to install the rubber stair treads.
  5. Low vibration profiles will be referred to as the combination of resilient rubber compounds and the low vibration profile design which will eliminate or noticeably reduce vibration of wheeled vehicles. Wheels of 4" diameter or greater should cause no vibration or ineffectual levels and should not contribute to ambient noise.
  6. Migrating waxes will be referred to as waxes and a soil-releasing formulation which are chemically and integrally a component of the products formulation. The waxes are activated by use, continual traffic and regular maintenance to the surface of the material.
  7. Non-solvent adhesive will be referred to as adhesive which has a non-solvent base and requires no open time for solvent flash.

1.02 INSTALLER EXPERIENCE LEVEL

  1. Installer must submit references on past rubber stair tread installations or submit proof of rubber stair tread installation training conducted by manufacturers installation training specialist.

1.03 DESCRIPTION OF WORK

  1. Prepare surface of existing floor or subfloor in areas indicated in the drawings to receive new rubber floor tile, in accordance with manufacturers requirements.
  2. Install rubber floor tile, including manufacturers recommended adhesive, in accordance with manufacturers requirements.

1.04 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

  1. All floor materials are to be stored in a dry, secure area at temperatures specified by the manufacturer.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.01 GENERAL

  1. Components of the rubber floor system are based upon ENDURA specifications to describe desired function, standards of quality, and material qualities.

2.02 SUBMITTALS

  1. Submit product data, samples, and installation instructions.
  2. Submit two samples approximately 5 x 6 inches in size illustrating color and design.  Samples will be used as a standard of finish and quality for the work.
  3. Submit cleaning and maintenance data.

2.03 WARRANTIES

  1. ENDURA shall provide full one (1) year warranty on materials and workmanship to be free from defects. ENDURA will also warrant their products against excessive wear under normal conditions with a ten (10) year limited wear warranty on products having a .130-inch base thickness and a five (5) year limited year warranty for products having a base thickness of .100-inch.

2.04 MATERIALS

  1. General: ENDURA rubber flooring shall be made of 100 percent synthetic virgin rubber (no regrind) and of such quality to allow for high resilience and slip retardants, plus finely ground stabilizing fillers, high density of fade-resistant color pigments to assure color brilliance and color uniformity throughout the material; migrating waxes and soil-releasing agents. These components are blended, calendered and then vulcanized.
  2. Colors: As selected from ENDURA standard color selection or custom colors. Custom colors require 5,000 square foot minimum.

  1. Profile

Coved or Chamfered Sides:
All profiles will be constructed with coved or chamfered sides to assist in the normal brush maintenance, thereby reducing soil collection at the base of the profile.

Top Edge:
The top edge or crown of the profile shall be sharp and a precise transition between the top and side of the profile to perform as a squeegee for the removal of foreign substances and fluids from the shoe sole.

    1. General: Perform preparation of subfloor and cleaning of subfloor in compliance with ENDURA installation instructions.
    2. Conduct moisture test if subfloor is concrete.
    3. Conduct an adhesion test as recommended.
    4. Cracks, depressions, and rough areas should be cleaned and filled with cementitious leveling compound with no less than 2,500 psi rating when fully cured. Leveling compound must be formulated of non-gypsum materials.

    3.02 APPLICATION

    1. General: lnstall ENDURA rubber flooring in strict compliance with installation instructions.
    2. Expansion Joints: Do not apply tile over expansion joints.
    3. During the period of 24 hours before the installation and throughout the adhesive curing period, the subfloor temperature should be at 72°F and must not be colder than 59°F or warmer than 85°F.
    4. Once brought to ambient temperature, install tile so that all tiles are laid in the same direction. This will be noted by a logo on the surface of the tile and/or directional arrows on the back of the material.
    5. Adhere tile to subfloor utilizing ENDURAs recommended adhesives. Proper trowel size must be used (1/16" x 1/16" x 1/16" square notched trowel for Endura Bond 700 ENDURACRYL 100, 1/32" x 1/32" x 1/32" for Endura Prene 565).
