Stunning. Exquisite. Long-lasting. Your building materials should embody all of these qualities and more. That's why you should choose East Teak Fine Hardwoods, Inc., the leader in First European Quality (FEQ) teak and exotic hardwoods. At East Teak, we supply a wide range of top-quality hardwood species and products, including hardwood flooring, architectural mouldings, plywood, decking and rough-sawn timbers. Focusing on quality service, we offer custom millwork to fit your exact specifications.

It all started with a shipment of rough-sawn teak lumber. Intended for the local boat-building community of Tacoma, Wash., this single container purchased in 1972 eventually led to an unmatched network of international cont acts and hardwood sources. East Teak Fine Hardwoods launched its business with a focus on the marine industry and quickly earned status as a preferred supplier for almost every major marine manufacturer.

The legendary properties of teak make it one of the great woods of the world. Once seen primarily in boating, teak has become a staple of residential and commercial applications. After three decades of growth, East Teak has expanded from teak to a wide range of hardwood species, including Afrormosia, Angelique, Cumaru, Fireland Cherry, Garapa, Ipé, Jatoba, Kempas, Mahogany, Merbau, Sapele and Tigerwood. In addition to these species, East Teak is now approved to purchase, process, sell and distribute Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified timber products available in-stock and by special order. And with facilities in both Washington state and South Carolina, East Teak can provide timely delivery to customers throughout North America and the Caribbean. Working with architects, interior designers and builders, East Teak is adding long-lasting beauty to projects in the hospitality, luxury residential and commercial markets.

The legendary properties of teak make it one of the great woods of the world. Once seen primarily in boating, teak has become a staple of residential and commercial applications.

DURABILITY: Teak is resistant to all extremes of climate, repels insect and fungus attacks, and is not harmed by acids or alkalis. Teak's inherent silica content and natural oils allow it to weather without the need of preservatives or sealants.

RESTORABILITY: Teak may be left untreated for years and yet be easily restored to its original golden brown color, although many prefer to let it weather to an attractive silver-gray. Preparations are also available that will allow teak that has been treated with finishes and oils to be successfully restored to its original condition.

Teak has been cultivated in tropical regions for hundreds of years; historical documents make reference to teak plantations in both 18th century India and 19th century Central America. Upon the cutting of a teak tree, the sap preserves the wood, making it resistant to saltwater and the harshest of conditions. The beauty and durability of teak led to its lasting popularity in the production of indoor and outdoor furniture, interior decorative trim and the decking and fittings on ships.

If you are uncertain about which hardwood is best suited to your project, ask our knowledgeable staff for guidance on the properties, price, and availability of any specie shown on our website. We may be able to suggest a hardwood you have not considered.

Teak is the ideal wood for decking, the standard of excellence. Boat builders have hailed the natural characteristics of teak for centuries; its unparalleled durability, workability and resistance to all extremes of climate. Teak is unaffected by insects, fungus, acids or alkalis.

The natural oils in "tectona grandis," (true teak), eliminate the need for preservatives and sealants to prevent cracking. Teak is prized for its golden color, dark markings and straight grain. Although coarse in texture, it is smooth to the touch and has virtually no raised grain. Owners may choose to finish the wood to a preferred shade or simply leave it to take on a natural silver gray patina.

Durability has made teak the only hardwood qualified for decks on U.S. Navy battleships. Admiral's Choice Teak Decking is truly no maintenance and has a clear non-skid advantage. Admiral's Choice is the best long term investment for every application. Keep in mind that this product is suitable for residential decks and walkways as well as commercial and public spaces.
