About Leedo Manufacturing Co.
Leedo Manufacturing Co.
34 years may seem like a long time, but for Leedo, it is just a beginning. Started in 1970, Leedo has evolved into one of the nations leading suppliers of cabinetry, countertops and installation to builders who require a full service cabinet company. Our founders, Leon and Dorothy Leventhal (thus the name Leedo) had a vision of servicing the growing builder business of south Texas during the early 70's. They manufactured cabinetry in a small location in East Bernard, Texas, for the booming city of Houston. In 1981, Leedo was sold to Victor Samuels who continued to ride the wave of the Texas Oil boom, supplying General Contractors with a rapidly increasing number and variety of cabinetry and countertops. Alas, the boom that fueled Houston and Dallas busted in the mid '80's. , The bottom fell out of Houston's housing market, and changes in tax law dried up the demand for multi-family construction. This affected Leedo unlike any other period in its history. Like many cabinet companies, Leedo had to diversify and become a bit more creative in order to survive. As well as building home office and home entertainment furniture, Leedo continued to supply cabinetry and was considered to be an excellent value, offering turn-key, installed kitchens for apartment projects nationwide. Offering nationwide installation was both a blessing and a curse. It allowed more control over the success of the sale, but it also strained the company's small field management team.
