Project Spotlight: Building Independence at the Integrated Learning House

At Special-Lite, we’re proud to support projects that make a real difference in students’ lives - like the Integrated Learning House (ILH) part of the Raymore Peculiar School District in Raymore, Missouri.

The ILH is more than a classroom; it’s a fully functional home where students with learning and support needs practice real-world life skills such as cooking, cleaning, and budgeting—often alongside their peers. This unique environment builds independence, confidence, and empathy in ways traditional classrooms can’t.

From design to construction, the ILH was a true community effort. Ray-Pec LEAD Center students worked alongside industry mentors and local businesses to bring the project to life. Carpentry, electrical, HVAC, design, and botany students all played a role, gaining hands-on experience while giving back to their school and community.

Two 6-Panel Wood Grain Hybrid FRP (SL-18) Doors really pop with a custom color to match the external design, while a Pebble Grain Hybrid FRP Door (SL-17) provides access between the interior and garage.

These doors look residential but are built for durability and long-life.

Funded largely through donations of materials, money, and time, the ILH shows what’s possible when schools and local partners come together. The Integrated Learning House is a great example of what can happen when vision, care, and community unite.
