SOMAY ROOF MASTIC® is a premium quality formulation, incorporating heavy duty acrylic resin emulsions which give it incredible resistance to degradation from exposure to the elements, and thus exceptional durability even in hot, tropical climates, the most severe environmental conditions for coatings to endure.

SOMAY ROOF MASTIC is resistant to wind, rain, sunlight, ultraviolet solar rays, salt air, snow, sleet, hail, etc. First formulated in 1966, it has been tested and proven in use for years in various climates around the world, from Maine to California, from Canada to the Caribbean, from the deserts of the Middle East and Southwestern United States, to South Pacific tropical islands.

SOMAY ROOF MASTIC will seal, waterproof and protect practically any smooth, structurally sound, well-drained roof surface when applied at the proper thickness according to instructions . TWO VERY THICK COATS of liquid SOMAY ROOF MASTIC must be applied so that they dry and cure to a virtually impenetrable, flexible, seamless, waterproofing, protective membrane.

Hurricane Proof Your Roof®*
Somay's ROOF MASTIC Sealer & Protector has been applied to thousands of roofs over the last 35 years. Somay is aware of absolutely NO ROOF on which the Somay ROOF MASTIC System has been properly applied, according to Somay's printed application instructions, that has ever sustained any damage at all from the wind or water of any Hurricane, ever, for over 30 years. This includes Hurricanes Andrew, Floyd, Frances, Jeanne, Katrina and Wilma. With so many years of successful applications, we believe it's accurate to consider the Somay ROOF MASTIC System as a "Hurricane Shutter for Your Roof" that can help you to "Hurricane Proof Your Roof!!"

WHY A PROTECTIVE ROOF COATING?

On every well maintained house and building, practically every exterior surface, whether it is wood, metal, concrete, stucco, etc., is finished with a protective paint or coating, and you expect these surfaces to last for generations. There is no reason your roof can't last just as long, if you just paint or coat it with a protective coating ... but not just any paint will do ... because of the very severe exposure your roof must endure, including solar radiation, rain, wind, etc., it is essential that you use a very high quality protective coating that can stand up to such a harsh exposure ... and this is exactly what SOMAY ROOF MASTIC® was engineered to do ... seal, waterproof, protect, and preserve your roof to help it last indefinitely.

HOW DOES SOMAY ROOF MASTIC® WORK?

TWO VERY THICK COATS of liquid SOMAY ROOF MASTIC must be applied so that they dry and cure to a virtually impenetrable, flexible, seamless, waterproofing, protective membrane. SOMAY ROOF MASTIC will adhere to properly prepared roof surfaces without cracking, peeling, chipping or flaking due to climatic exposure.

EXTRA SPECIAL BENEFITS

SOMAY ROOF MASTIC can provide HURRICANE PROTECTION for your roof. It is the ONLY ROOF COATING which stood up to the 175 m.p.h. winds of HURRICANE ANDREW on August 24, 1992. During Hurricane Andrew, roofs protected with the SOMAY ROOF MASTIC System stayed on, even in the middle of Homestead, Florida, in south Dade county, which received the most severe winds, while other roofs that were NOT protected with SOMAY ROOF MASTIC were peeling off and flying away, leaving houses exposed to the sky, the wind and the rain. ONLY SOMAY ROOF MASTIC has a proven record of providing superior HURRICANE PROTECTION for your roof!

SOMAY ROOF MASTIC is an excellent SOLAR HEAT INSULATOR. Based on independent research by the Thermophysical Properties Division of Battelle's Columbus Laboratories, SOMAY ROOF MASTIC has a thermal conductivity rating similar to that of wood or insulating firebrick, and 1/100 that of steel, and 1/1000 that of aluminum! Conclusion: SOMAY ROOF MASTIC is "considered a very good thermal insulator" ... i.e., it is a very poor conductor of heat.

SOMAY ROOF MASTIC is an excellent SOLAR HEAT REFLECTOR ."White" SOMAY ROOF MASTIC has a solar reflectance value of 83%, which is exceptionally high for a coating, leading to the conclusion that SOMAY ROOF MASTIC is "superior in relation to all common building materials in the rejection of radiated heat" ... i.e., it is a very poor absorber of heat.

Thus, SOMAY ROOF MASTIC is unique among building materials in that it is BOTH a very good THERMAL INSULATOR (Non-Conductor of Heat) and a superior THERMAL REFLECTOR (Non-Absorber of Heat).

Because of these unique properties, SOMAY ROOF MASTIC can very significantly reduce AIR CONDITIONING ENERGY CONSUMPTION. This was confirmed by additional independent research conducted by The Florida Solar Energy Center (Part of The State University System of Florida), as shown in Report No. FSEC-P-F-274-94. Results after SOMAY ROOF MASTIC was applied to a variety of roof surfaces, including asphalt shingles, bitumen, tile roofs, etc. showed that the SOMAY ROOF MASTIC:
1. Increased roof reflectivity over 234%
(from .22 to .73).
2. Reduced roof top surface temperatures over 35%
(from 170° F. to 110° F. = 60° F. reduction).
3. Reduced under roof (attic) temperatures over 31%
(from 134° F. to 93° F., = 41° F. reduction equal to practically ambient temperature)
4. Reduced Air Conditioning Energy Consumption over 43%
(from 1478 W. to 838 W.). , and "savings would have been higher had the house had an air conditioner capable of meeting the cooling demands prior to the application of ROOF MASTIC. After the ROOF MASTIC application, the air conditioner CAN keep the house interior cool!"

SOMAY ROOF MASTIC MUST PASS, EQUAL OR EXCEED the pre-established specifications established by The Product Control Division, Office of Building Code Compliance of Miami-Dade County, Florida, to be Miami-Dade County Approved. This requires a long list of sophisticated tests which must be conducted by an approved independent testing laboratory. To see the list of tests, the established specifications and the test results for SOMAY ROOF MASTIC, click here . The conclusion by the independent testing laboratory is shown in the following Statement of Compliance: "This product complies with all of the requirements of the Florida Building Code ... this coating may be applied to galvanized metal, spray polyurethane foam, PVC, single ply and SBS granule surface and modified bituminous membrane, asphalt shingle, clay tile and concrete roofing." Somay's original approval by Miami-Dade County is dated January 14, 1974, over 35 years ago. The original approval by the Southern States Building Code Congress' Committee on Compliance is dated February 27, 1974. Current approvals are effective through 2013.
