Willard Bahama Shutters

Providing privacy, sun control, weather protection and security, the ISLANDER aluminum shutters are not only functional but attractive for commercial applications such as banks, schools, and other institutions. Since our traditional design is more attractive than ordinary industrial louvers, imaginative architects and engineers are continually creating new arrangements. You can design new building exteriors or reface existing facades. The ISLANDER is manufactured in standard production sizes or can be custom-made to your exact requirements. See "Willard Aluminum Colors/Properties" Showcase for ISLANDER color chart.

Islander BAHAMA SHUTTERS/RESIDENTIAL
Quality built to withstand the most extreme environmental conditions such as hurricanes, salt air and high humidity, the energy saving ISLANDER aluminum shutters are ideal for use on homes, apartments, condominiums and townhouses. Also as a sun control device, the ISLANDER is highly effective in reducing solar heat build-up over windows, porches, carports and other areas. Especially practical to cover sliding glass doors and to enclose terraces, patios, and balconies.

GENERAL

Shutters shall be the all-aluminum islander, (bahama/sarasota) style as manufactured by Willard Shutter Co., Inc., Miami, Florida, where indicated and as detailed on the drawings.

CONSTRUCTION

Shutters shall consist of a series of 1-3/4" wide fixed louvers inserted into interlocking box-beam frames, 1-5/8" thick and 2-1/2" wide.

Louvers shall be rolled with a converse beveled edge and spaced in 1-1/4" height increments. Louvers may span a maximum 26", at which point an additional box-beam shall be required as an interior frame support (mull).

Each box-beam shall be packed with styrofoam to firmly receive the louver and add structural soundness to the frame. Heavy duty extruded aluminum I-beams shall be inserted into box-beams for additional reinforcement as required.

OPERATION

Shutters shall include a continuous, reversible, extruded aluminum header as a top-hinged mounting device.

Shutters shall be supported by means of telescopic adjustable arms (or: fixed arm with the shutter projected at an angle of <44 degrees). The arms connect to rod brackets on the underside of the shutter and to the camelbacks mounted to the existing structure.

The shutters shall include arms which can be disconnected to facilitate lowering the shutter into the closed position (or: the shutters shall include arms which are attached permanently in order that the shutter may remain in a fixed position at all times.)

MATERIALS

Box-beam and louvers shall be 3004-H36 roll-formed aluminum, .025" thick.

Styrofoam shall be dyplast expanded polystyrene insulation to meet federal specifications HH-1-524a.

I-beam inserts shall be 6063-T6 extruded aluminum, .062" typical wall thickness.

All fasteners shall be self-tapping stainless steel machine screws or pop-rivets, aluminum alloy 2024-T4.

Header hinge, tube supports, tie-down straps, and camelbacks shall be aluminum alloy 6063-T5.

FINISH

Box-beam frame and louvers shall be roller-coated baked enamel in a medium gloss as selected from manufacturer¿s standard colors. (Special finishes available subject to inquiry.) I-beam shall be mill finish. All other aluminum extrusions shall be anodized R1-201.
