JP Specialties To Supply For SunEdison

 

SunEdison has agreed to build two solar PV plants for Arizona Public Service (APS) that will have a combined capacity of 37MW. The 17MW Hyder solar plant and 20MW Chino Valley solar plant, which APS will take ownership of once completed, will bring APS’s renewable energy portfolio to almost 682MW by 2013.

The two solar PV plants are being built under APS’s AZ Sun program, which aims to complete 100MW of utility-owned PV power plants where a third party, like SunEdison, constructs the plants and then APS steps in to take over ownership once the plants start commercial operation.

“These two solar projects will further increase the resource and geographic diversity of our energy supply, and under the AZ Sun program they will also provide ownership diversity,” said Don Robinson, APS president and chief operating officer. “By adding layers of diversity to our energy supply, we are reducing our fuel cost risk and increasing energy security for our customers. We also are providing another substantial boost to Arizona’s growing renewable energy industry.”

The Hyder project should start construction in June 2011 and be operational during the fourth quarter of 2011. Conversely, the Chino Valley solar project will enter construction sometime in the first quarter of 2012 and is anticipated to be done by the fourth quarter 2012. Both plants will use polycrystalline PV panels mounted on single-axis tracking systems.
