StoneLite® from Stone Panels International LLC Remains Dependable Choice For Insured Durability

The frequency of earthquakes is on the rise. Ever since the magnitude-9.3 Sumatra-Andamans earthquake in 2004, the Earth has experienced more quakes than the historical average, according to Engineering News-Record.

The myth that earthquakes are a West Coast problem is untrue. While it is more seismically active, the eastern United States is not a quake-free zone. The 1886 Charleston earthquake measured a 7.3 magnitude and just this past August, Virginia experienced a 5.8 quake. Scientists are predicting another big one will hit somewhere along the east coast, according to Engineering News-Record.
Wherever an earthquake does occur, preparedness is key. Ensuring buildings meet structural compliance can decrease the amount of damage a quake causes.
In response to these concerns, Stone Panels International LLC, the global leader in lightweight natural stone panels, created StoneLite®, the state-of-the-art wall cladding system incorporating the natural beauty of granite, marble, travertine, slate and limestone with aircraft quality aluminum reinforcing. StoneLite® panels offer impact resistance and flexural strength provided by Stone Panels’ patented manufacturing process.

StoneLite® can resist up to 60 times more impact than solid 3 cm thick granite. Unlike solid stone, these panels can be flexed, making them ideal for seismic locations. StoneLite® panels have passed racking shear tests and simulating seismic loading; all testing was completed in accordance with ASTM E-72. They have also passed full-scale seismic testing per CSTB guidelines (France).
The Virginia quake this past August startled many people and provided a wake-up call. The east coast quake offered a chance to consider necessary responses, preparations and knowledge about earthquakes.

Stone Panels International LLC has used these durable panels for over 35 years. StoneLite® panels provide a natural stone façade to a building that ensures it's a strong, safe installation that has withstood the test of time. Most "traditional" methods have shown shortcomings and major failures.

StoneLite® panels were developed and patented more than 41 years ago in Ireland. Production came to the United States in 1983 and moved to their current 175,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility located in Coppell, Texas in 2002. The first notable exterior cladding project in the United States was a five-story office building in Dallas completed in 1980.
