Major Industries Inc.: Ingraham High School

Ingraham High School in Seattle, Washington was recently given an overhaul that included a dozen new classrooms and an open, tiered space for the school’s technical programs. An open courtyard space was created to help tie together the multiple floor levels and provide an area for both socializing and casual learning activities. To help bring light to the area, translucent panel skylights were utilized, allowing for controlled natural light to fill the space without the distracting glare or uncomfortable hot-spots that could occur with clear glazing materials. Beyond the light control capabilities of translucent panel systems, they’re also a good choice for renovation projects because of their light weight, requiring significantly less structural support than a comparable glass skylight system.

The Ingraham School Project, designed by Integrus Architecture, is clearly a beautiful design - but it's an award-winning one as well, including the 2013 AIA/CAE Educational Facility Design Award, the 2012 AIA Washington Civic Design Awards – Citation Award, and the 2012 IIDA - INawards / Design IN Public - Winner in Class.
