Reliance Foundry Releases New Line of Retractable Bollards That Provide Increased Durability
Reliance Foundry Co. Retractable bollards are convenient access control devices and today’s introduction of new models will spell out an increase in potential use. Effectively doubling the product line, every standard retractable bollard will now also be offered in 316 stainless steel for increased resiliency in coastal environments and applications where chemicals or higher levels of moisture may present a concern.

Retractable bollards are collapsed into a receiver that sits below the concrete surface. Because they spend much of their time below ground, they are extremely susceptible to the environmental conditions of a site. If water is allowed to pool or stand in a receiver, it can have detrimental effects on the structural integrity of the retractable bollard. 304 stainless steel will perform well in areas that are exposed to mid-range levels of moisture but may be damaged in more intense environments. Often called “marine-grade,” 316 stainless steel is known for its resistance to corrosion and its ability to withstand exposure to greater levels of moisture. The new 316 stainless steel models have opened the retractable bollard line to a whole new range of applications to which the original models may not have been suited. The tougher composition of the 316 bollards will offer greater resiliency in coastal environments and areas where de-icing chemicals or stronger-than- normal cleaning agents are frequently used. Although it may be susceptible to rusting in extreme environments, 316 stainless steel will stand where other materials may fail.
