National Preparedness Month: Hurricane Protection

National Preparedness Month: Hurricane Protection

Falling at the height of hurricane season in the United States, September is recognized as National Preparedness Month and a reminder that natural disasters will happen - and without the proper protections the consequences could be catastrophic. This is especially true when it comes to architectural design and choosing the right materials for building a strong, dependable structure that is able to withstand and defend against damaging winds, flying debris, and other destructive forces. Poorly constructed buildings can cost a community not only thousands (or millions!) of dollars in damage, but also lives.

When severe weather strikes, be prepared with a wall or skylight that has been configured to provide hurricane protection. With a sandwich-panel construction consisting of an aluminum grid core and an Ultimate Series™ high-impact face sheet, our Guardian 275® skylights and wall systems can be configured to provide dependable protection from the elements. Major’s Guardian 275® systems have withstood a variety of missile impact, water and air infiltration and pressure load tests to achieve approval for use in most Florida counties, the Texas Gulf Coast and more than 95% of the hurricane zones in North America. Guardian 275® hurricane systems were also the first translucent panel daylighting system to receive Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) approval (#RWA-01) for use along the Texas Gulf Coast.

Major Industries’ Guardian 275® Translucent Systems, now approved for use in most Florida counties, the Texas Gulf Coast and more than 95% of the hurricane zones in North America, can be configured to provide unmatched protection from the elements while allowing glare-free natural light to illuminate building interiors.

Guardian 275®, with its unique sandwich panel design, integral moisture management systems, and use of high-performance materials, offers strong protection without sacrificing the numerous health and environmental benefits that daylighting provides. Guardian 275® has also been rigorously tested in order to receive a Florida Approval Number, having to stand up to a variety of missile impact, water and air infiltration and pressure load tests. Guardian 275® hurricane systems were also the first translucent panel daylighting system to receive Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) approval (#RWA-01) for use along the Texas Gulf Coast.
